Prescription Forgery Alert Program
One of HDPhA’s
most significant projects includes the implementation of a
Forgery Information System. Over 250 pharmacies participate in
the program to reduce the number of forgeries in their
community. The organization uses a fax fan out system to
pharmacies to disseminate information of suspicious
prescriptions. As a result of this program, they have been able
to obstruct almost 80 forgeries over the past year. In addition,
HDPhA has developed a working relationship with the Hamilton
Police Department to create awareness of their efforts to reduce
forgeries and their work to keep narcotic/controlled substances
off the streets and out of schools. HDPhA continues to meet with
representatives from the Police Department to discuss better
cooperation between pharmacy and the police.
"HDPhA is an
inspiration to local associations and pharmacists throughout
Ontario. The initiative shown by HDPhA is admirable and OPA is
pleased to have the opportunity to honour this dedicated group
of pharmacists."
- This is one of the
initiatives for which the OPA awarded the HDPhA
the District Shield Award in 2007. |
